apibrėžtis 1) Mokymo turinio elementas, apimantis teorinius ir praktinius veiksmus, kuriuos moksleivis turi įgyti, įsisavindamas tam tikro dalyko programą; 2) Išmokimo padarinys, pasižymintis gebėjimu tiksliai veikti. Mokėjimas – pirmoji įgūdžių lavinimo fazė, kai gebama atlikti tikslius veiksmus pagal taisyklę, instrukciją arba technologijos, t. y. proceso valdymo išmanymas. Mokėjimas dar gali būti suprantamas kaip visuma įgūdžių, leidžiančių atlikti tam tikrą veiklą. Mokėjimas įgyjamas taikant žinias mąstymo, kalbėjimo procese ar praktinėje veikloje. Norint išmokti vairuoti traktorių, reikia žinoti veiksmų seką. Kai kuriems mokėjimams įgyti reikia ir specialių įgūdžių, o kartais pakanka nesąmoningai įsidėmėti veiksmų vaizdą. Mokykloje moksleiviai įgyja įvairių mokėjimų: skaityti, rašyti, skaičiuoti, analizuoti, apibendrinti, techninio darbo operacijų ir kt. Kartu su žiniomis jie sudaro asmenybės veiklos kompetencijos ir kvalifikacijos pagrindą.
